The mission of Austin Zoo is to assist animals in need through rescue, conservation and education. We currently have over 300 animals, representing more than 100 different species. Our animal collection includes animals from other facilities that are being retired due to age, health or other issues; animals that were seized in animal cruelty cases; retired laboratory research animals and rehomed exotic pets.
Austin Zoo is a private, non-profit zoo and as such, we do not receive any funding from the city or state. Your purchases enable us to continue to care for the animals we have, and to be able to take in new animals that need a safe home. Please remember to indicate 'Austin Zoo' as the beneficiary of your donation at check-out.

Zebras are equids, members of the horse family. The Grant’s Zebra (Equus quagga boehmi) is the smallest of six subspecies of the plains zebra. They live in eastern and southern Africa sustained by the grasslands and savannas and even some woodlands. There are more Grant’s zebras in the wild than any other species or subspecies of zebras. However, recent civil wars and political conflicts in the African countries near their habitats have caused regional extinction. Zebra are also killed for their coats or to eliminate competition with domestic livestock.
